Sacha is sitting in front of a video camera to start us off this week, he’s being recorded by Max whose office they are in and he’s talking about how he came up with his idea that’s to do with the transplant operation that he’s due to perform today.

Max discusses with Ric what if something goes wrong in the surgery that Sacha is due to perform, Ric says that he’s every confidence in his friend and colleague but Max doesn’t seem as convinced, saying that Sacha has a bit of a past history with his mental health and he’s just lost his great auntie.
Ric goes to see Sacha and the two men talk about how Sacha is feeling over some coffee and pastries in Pulses, Sacha says he’s fine and he’s dealt with the whole Essie situation and he’s ok after the death of Maria, is he really?

Not long later as things are being prepared for the operation, Max says to Ric that she’ll speak to Nicky about going into the surgery with Sacha, Max basically doesn’t sound like she’s trusts Sacha in there ‘on his own’ so to speak and thinks Nicky will be the right person to put in with him.
Whilst speaking to Nicky on Darwin, Ben drops the junior doctor right in the mire with Max as he mentions about her locum shifts at St James’ the previous week, Max realises that Nicky did those yet probably didn’t do her own at Holby and asks to see Nicky in her office in forty five minutes, if this wasn’t enough Nicky’s mum is brought into AAU with chest injuries after another car incident after she gets a puncture and tries to change her tyre but hurts herself on doing so.

Up in Max’s office where Nicky also is, the acting CEO doesn’t waste any time going hell for leather on the junior doctor on the fact she called in sick at Holby but did two shifts at St James’, saying that this is gross misconduct and instant dismissal, that she should sack her but she won’t yet, that Nicky can’t ever make it right in her eyes but she can make it less wrong, that Nicky will repay the money she stole and she won’t ever take anything from any hospital ever again, before sending her out of the office, can things get any worse for Nicky?

The whole transplant operation is put in jeopardy when Max informs Sacha that it can’t go ahead as planned because there has been a complaint against Sacha, and she needs to fully investigate it before she can allow him to continue the proposed surgery. Sacha tells her that Gideon the man who is due to have the transplant can’t wait around, that he needs to have it done now, that the patient is relying on one small vein he has left and if that gives up then they will be unable to keep him alive. Max says to Sacha that she isn’t and hasn’t said she’s cancelling the operation, just that he won’t be performing it, much to the horror of Sacha himself. After Max says this Essie, Dominic and Ric all say that if Sacha isn’t allowed to do the surgery then they don’t want any part of it now either, their pagers then going off because Gideon is in trouble.

When Max tries to get Ric to do the operation instead he refuses, he says that he’s not doing it, that he won’t do it, that no one else in Holby is suitable to do the surgery apart from Sacha, that Sacha is the only man for the job because he knows it better than Ric himself and anyone else in the hospital too. After this passionate speech Max caves in and gives Sacha the nod to perform the operation, well done Ric!

In the locker room on Keller after the surgery, Sacha and Essie talk and he says how he has to learn how to stop loving her because she’s with Ben now, and he seems like a decent guy and that Essie loves him and Ben loves her too. He goes onto say he’s officially letting her go, that he’s over her, just as Essie is about to say something back Ben comes in and then Sacha leaves, but the look on her face says that maybe she isn’t as pleased with what Sacha says as people might expect, does she love Sacha more than Ben?

With things going from bad to worse for Nicky in her life and at Holby, she staggers into the flat drunk and bedraggled in the last few scenes of the episode, Cameron and Chloe are cuddled up on the sofa watching TV, Nicky says that she’s lost Bernie’s necklace that Cameron gave to her, that she’s looked everywhere at the registrars ball she’s just come back from. He’s livid at this news, telling her that the necklace was given to his mum by her great grandma, with a bit of coaxing and calming from Chloe he tells Nicky that it’s fine, it’s just a necklace and the main thing is that she’s ok. When Nicky goes into her bedroom, it turns out that she’s made the whole tale up, she’s not lost the necklace at all, she’s holding it in her hands as she sits at her desk and has brought up a pawn brokers website online, surely she wouldn’t sell it, would she? How much lower can she sink before she admits to someone how desperate she is? Or will someone find out before she says anything?
